Point-of-care assays for infectious diseases: Current state of the art

Prof Parboosing is a Principal Pathologist at the National Health Laboratory Services and Associate Professor of Virology at the University of Witwatersrand. He obtained his medical degree and specialist training in virology at the University of Kwazulu-Natal and then completed a Master of Science degree in Epidemiology at Columbia University in New York. His PhD and subsequent research focused on the applications of nanotechnology to viral infections, particularly HIV. He has over 20 years of experience in clinical virology and laboratory diagnostics. Currently, he is working on a novel method to improve the sensitivity of point-of-care and lab-based immunoassays for antigen detection.
