In utero HIV / ARV exposure disrupts infant immune systems ontological trajectory

Dr Sonwabile Dzanibe is a research scientist specializing in immunology and vaccinology. He obtained a BSc Hons in Biochemistry from the University of Pretoria and a PhD in Vaccinology from the University of the Witwatersrand, and a postdoctoral fellowship in Immunology at the University of Cape Town. He has been awarded the Wellcome Trust International Fellowship and the MRC Early-Investigator Award, and he has authored multiple influential research publications.

Dr Dzanibe’s research is focused on the development of the infant immune system and the various factors influencing the efficacy of early childhood vaccines. His work aims to establish a robust systems immunology framework for the development of vaccines targeted at reducing infectious diseases in children. This critical research has significant implications for public health, particularly in improving vaccine responses and protecting vulnerable populations.

Outside the lab, Dr Dzanibe is passionate about computer programming, hiking, and running, activities that enrich his life and support his scientific endeavours
