INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL FELLOWSHIP AWARDS IN SUPPORT OF GLOBAL INFECTIOUS DISEASES RESEARCH

The Harvard Global Health Institute is pleased to announce a request for proposals to support infectious diseases related work at an international site with Harvard faculty. This award is intended to foster a strong and diverse community of science scholars and increase international research in the area of global infectious diseases. Applicants working in the basic and applied sciences as well as those interested in the social sciences, and others of diverse disciplinary backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

CRITERIA: Individuals who are Harvard students pursuing a masters or doctoral degree, post-doctoral fellows and clinical trainees with an academic appointment of fellow or resident at a Harvard-affiliated hospital are eligible to apply. Candidates are required to have a background in the areas of infectious diseases, immunology, genomics, proteomics, chemical genetics, microbiology, health services research, epidemiology, biostatistics, general public health, health economics, health policy and administration, or another relevant discipline. AWARD CATEGORIES: Applications may be submitted for ONE of the following two categories:
$25,000 Research Travel Award – Preference will be given to applications with partnerships and IRB approvals already in place and that can demonstrate outstanding research capability and the potential for significant contributions to their respective field. This award is to be used for travel expenses, living expenses, health insurance, travel insurance (I-SOS), research related supplies, and up to $10,000 for salary support and fringe benefits. All applicants should indicate clearly whether they are seeking full or partial funding, as well as list other potential funding sources.

$5,000 Planning Travel Award – Preference will be given to applications with the potential for establishing meaningful partnerships and the necessary infrastructure to carry out the proposed research or project. Awards may be used for travel and living expenses and for travel insurance (I-SOS).

Announcing the 4 million Euro Else Kröner Fresenius Immunology Award

The Else Kröner Fresenius Award commemorates Else Kröner (1925–1988), a German woman whose exceptional life was dedicated to the health care company Fresenius SE and to supporting medical research as well as humanitarian projects. Else was a pharmacist and entrepreneur with a passion for exploring potential clinical applications of fundamental discoveries. She promoted promising young scientists while helping them develop their talents as researchers.

The Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung (Foundation) intends to award world-wide pioneering discoveries in the field of medical immunology and to facilitate future research by the winning individual or team.

The award – At least 500,000 € will be awarded to the winner(s) in person. Up to 3,500,000 € will be awarded for future research.

IUIS has been asked to manage the selection process in order to guaranty the highest scientific quality of the awarded candidates. Candidates will be jointly selected by the Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung and a committee composed of members proposed by IUIS.
